Opioids (AKA Narcotics) for Fibromyalgia Pain Relief

Many people take opioids for pain relief. Studies are inconclusive as to whether they really work on Fibromyalgia or not. I took them for a few years and they would take the edge off only. It is getting harder to find a doctor who prescribes them with all the bad publicity recently.

I can no longer take them as they can be dangerous with some drugs and I take psychiatric drugs and those combinations can be lethal. My doctor won’t even prescribe Tramadol which is not a narcotic according to some studies, but it can cause a problem in combination with psychiatric drugs. Though the pain can be excruciating, I can’t take more than an NSAID because I must have the psychiatric drugs more than opioid pain relief.

Your best bet for Opioid prescriptions is a certified pain doctor. That’s their specialty. Most other doctors will not or cannot prescribe them.

I don’t know why, but yesterday after my walk, the pain hit so hard….sometimes I drink to take the edge off…is that any better or worse than Narcotics? At least the opiates don’t interfere with mood stabilizers and antidepressants. After one beer last night I woke up suicidal and think they are related. The side effects of opiates made me stop. Subox got me off.

Opiates do interfere with mood stabilizers and anti-depressants. They can be a fatal combination. I just read an article on that and that article inspired me to write this. I can’t take opioids because of that deadly combination. Now I know why my drs won’t prescribe even Tramadol for me. I was told this by my doctors besides the article I read on it. I would rather take my psych meds and skip the pain relievers because of that fatal combination that can occur. Be careful please!
