Fibromyalgia and post exertional malaise


Research doesn’t know if exercise is good or bad for Fibromyalgia. My doctors insist on it, but I find it painful and draining. Just grocery shopping puts me to bed when I get home to rest.

I say we know our bodies and what we can stand or not stand. If it knocks you out for a long rest you are overdoing it.

    For years I did not know about post exertional malaise, so I would push myself beyond reasonableness and crash. Then I read an analogy somewhere about thinking of your energy as water-heater. Where If you draw a water-heater down to empty it takes a long while to heat up again. Where a half full water-heater, heats up again quickly. So it suggested to that you keep a log of how long you can function before crashing and then cut that in half, and then rest in the pause, and you know what, it works!
    I don’t really use the half way point or anything because each day and task are different, but I frequently pause and sit quiet and still or nap for ten to fifteen minutes whenever I think of it, and now I get much more done. Maybe not all in one day as before, but since I don’t have as many full shut down days, in the end, more is accomplished.
