Recent studies have not only shown but CONFIRMED that olive oil is great for pain relief as it contains anti-inflammatory properties. These properties can fight off more than a hundred inflammation causing genes. In another research, patients who suffered from chronic pain problems such as arthritis and fibromyalgia were put in a test. They were to take four teaspoons of olive oil everyday for a total of twelve weeks. The result found was that the patients saw at least a slight to moderate reduction in their pain, stiffness and aches.
One of this properties is a substance that is called the oleocanthal which is composed of inflammatory enzymes that acts as pain relievers. Studies show that 1 and half teaspoons of olive oil is also equivalent to 200mg of pain reliever like ibuprofen. However, depending on the process of olive oils, cold pressed olives are much preferred because heat process can destroy the oleocanthal in olives.
Just tried Virgin Olive Oil last week. It actually tasted better than cooking in butter. Hurray me I tried something new.
