Will Power – Inspiration Monday – May 11, 2014

WILL POWER – by Tessa Smeigh May 2014

The coffee was steaming. Sue drank it in an effort to warm up after her long walk to the coffee shop to meet her girlfriends from college. She hadn’t seen them since graduation last year.

While she waited she fantasized about her new boyfriend. They had gone to college together and she ran into him last month. They went out for dinner on their first date and by the second one they had slept together at Sue’s apartment. She couldn’t wait to tell her friends how happy she and Steve were.

She wanted to see him more often, but he told her he was really busy at work and would contact her when he was free to spend time with her. She wasn’t happy with this. She had no will power and it took all of her strength to keep her promise to not call him while he was working. He told her he worked nights and weekends mainly. This made her happy since she also worked nights and most weekends, leaving her days free.

They hadn’t talked much and she had no idea where he was living at the moment. They exchanged cell phone numbers and then chatted briefly. She did most of the talking as Steve didn’t seem inclined to tell her much.

She wondered briefly what the girls had been up to. They really hadn’t kept in touch and this was their first meeting to catch up on each other’s lives since they graduated. She wished they would hurry up!

She heard laughter at the door and looked up to see a group of girls and one guy entering the coffee shop. Her friends, but she was shocked to see Daisy arm and arm with Steve. She became aware her mouth was hanging open and she closed it and stood up to greet her friends trying not to stare at Steve.

She was shocked when Daisy introduced Steve as her new husband. They had told no one and eloped a few months ago.

She wanted to cry, but shock kept her from doing anything at the moment. She tried not to stare at them, but she felt Steve staring at her. Tears were starting to form and she quickly excused herself to go to the ladies’ room. She didn’t realize that Steve was following her and he grabbed her arm once they were out of the front of the coffee shop.

“I am sorry I didn’t tell you that I was married, but it really doesn’t have to matter.”

“It matters to me,” she said fighting back tears. “I don’t want to be the other woman. Besides Daisy is one of my friends. She deserves better.”

“Come on Sue we had fun the other night. Don’t break it off! I have plenty of free time during the week days. I work for myself and determine my own hours.”

Sue had claimed earlier she didn’t have any will power. She agreed weakly.

#WeekendCoffeeShare: Now it is pinched nerves – September 2017

If we were having coffee this weekend, I would be drinking water (my main drink since my diabetes is so out of control) and you could have your choice of beverages.

I would tell you about my new struggles with life. I have pinched nerves in my neck and back causing extensive pain, more than my normal chronic pain. I was given a few percocets, but they won’t last until my pain management appointment October 17. Thanks to all the people abusing drugs, those of us in true pain can’t get what we need. I am thankful for what they could give me.

I have MRI’s to get, a nerve test to study the amount of damage and then steroid injections (there goes my sugar levels sky high) and then hopefully pain meds. This is the second time in 7 years I went through this. Last time I was also diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. That is adding its 2 cents as well.

My bipolar is not as bad right now, but it is adding its 2 cents as well. I can’t help, but feel depression during all of this. I have lived with chronic pain for 40 years now and this is so much worse. Hopefully the injections will help. I am going to the same dr so I hope she will follow along with the same treatment.

I am skipping the 2 treatments of physical therapy due to cost and they really didn’t help much last time. Living on a government disability check is impossible and I have no choice, but to go for this medical treatment. It will push the added burden of the bankruptcy sooner rather than later.

I keep trying to remind myself that God will provide for my needs, but the other part of me wants to know why I must go through all this pain, both physical and mental. I know there are people worse off than I and surgery is not on the table at this point, but this is degenerative, hence the name Degenerative Disk Disease. The inflammation from the arthritis and herniated disks is what is pinching the nerves. The injections if possible will help take down some of the inflammation.

They say that not eating sugar helps inflammation. I barely eat any following this low carb diet, but it doesn’t seem to help the inflammation from my standpoint.

Okay, done complaining for now.

Hope you all have a great and blessed week!
