New Chromebook

My 2 year old desktop has pretty much had it. My dad suggested a Chromebook. Has some limitations and some good things. I will eventually get used to it and it isn’t exactly like a lap top. Everything is done on the web and no Microsoft programs. Have to find equivalents in Google to use.

I got the Kindle book “Chromebooks for Dummies” and it has helped some.

Diabetes Chronicles 8 – article against Keto (extremely low carb diets)

First off I want to say, I don’t mind doing this research as it helps me and perhaps you if you have type 2 Diabetes. Just remember I am not a doctor and I cannot vouch for this information. It is just stuff I have learned either over the years or is even new to me.

This article is against Keto (Ketogenic) low carb diets.

I was pushing this diet, but it wasn’t working for me. This article explains why it isn’t a good diet to follow. My son, studied nutrition, also is against the Keto diet, although he says he will support me in what I decide. I recently made the decision to stop it. I am watching my carbs and going low carb, but not following a strict Keto diet and after reading this new article I am rethinking just how bad it might be for me and why it isn’t working for me and like the author says who wants to eat Keto the rest of your life. There has to be a better way just need help with what I should be eating.

Diabetes Chronicles 7 – Plus a helpful article about diabetes and not affording meds

First off I want to say, I don’t mind doing this research as it helps me and perhaps you if you have type 2 Diabetes. Just remember I am not a doctor and I cannot vouch for this information. It is just stuff I have learned either over the years or is even new to me.

People with Diabetes Are Skipping Their Medications to Save Money

Not just seniors have problems affording their diabetes medications. I am 61 and on disability with Medicare and I can’t afford my meds if I lose my extra help through the state. Right now they are paying 100% of my meds. My one insulin is over $3000 for 3 months and over $500 for one month of my long acting insulin. I lose my extra help and I will not be taking any meds and most likely will die earlier. That doesn’t include my other meds.

How is the typical senior or disabled younger person able to afford these meds unless they are on a low income with extra help. So many fall in between the cracks and they have to let the meds go so they can live.

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS Nov. 25/17

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “ink.” Use it as a noun or a verb. Have fun!

*******************

Blink of an eye. It seems so simple, but it is not if you have eye injuries where the eye swells and there is no blinking just watery, runny eyes and pain. I have corneal erosion. A very simple eye injury to do and not one that is easily fixable if fixable at all. I have had both eye’s cornea’s scraped and next since this isn’t working is a probable laser surgery to try and fix the injuries. Not just one eye, but both.

Here are the rules:

1. Your post must be stream of consciousness writing, meaning no editing, (typos can be fixed) and minimal planning on what you’re going to write.

2. Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be. One sentence – one thousand words. Fact, fiction, poetry – it doesn’t matter. Just let the words carry you along until you’re ready to stop.

3. There will be a prompt every week. I will post the prompt here on my blog on Friday, along with a reminder for you to join in. The prompt will be one random thing, but it will not be a subject. For instance, I will not say “Write about dogs”; the prompt will be more like, “Make your first sentence a question,” “Begin with the word ‘The’,” or simply a single word to get your started.

4. Ping back! It’s important, so that I and other people can come and read your post! For example, in your post you can write “This post is part of SoCS:” and then copy and paste the URL found in your address bar at the top of this post into yours. Your link will show up in my comments for everyone to see. The most recent pingbacks will be found at the top. NOTE: Pingbacks only work from WordPress sites. If you’re self-hosted or are participating from another host, such as Blogger, please leave a link to your post in the comments below.

5. Read at least one other person’s blog who has linked back their post. Even better, read everyone’s! If you’re the first person to link back, you can check back later, or go to the previous week, by following my category, “Stream of Consciousness Saturday,” which you’ll find right below the “Like” button on my post.

6. Copy and paste the rules (if you’d like to) in your post. The more people who join in, the more new bloggers you’ll meet and the bigger your community will get!

7. As a suggestion, tag your post “SoCS” and/or “#SoCS” for more exposure and more views.

8. Have fun!

******************

If we were having coffee I would be mentioning how my epidural (steroid) shot is wearing off .

Last night (Thanksgiving) I had dinner with my middle daughter, boyfriend and her son. After we ate there we went to the boyfriend’s family dinner and they had a robust Italian dinner with lots of Italian desserts. All of which I shouldn’t have eaten. I did though and increased my insulin to bring my numbers down.

I will be heading to my weekly brunch tomorrow morning with my BFF. We both look forward to that. I had several lows to treat, dr won’t be happy.

I am still changing my bills to the the new bank. As I pay each one this month I have to make the change. Soon I should be done with all the changes due to changing banks.

Have a great weekend and God Bless You All!

Diabetes Chronicles 6 – Plus a helpful article about low carb medications

Diabetes Drug Can Now Be Used to Treat Obesity

This article is about the newer drug Victoza. It is a daily injectable and has weight reducing properties. Now I tried it, but the appetite suppressor suppressed my already suppressed appetite and kept me on a constant low and I felt awful. It made just thinking about food wanting me to puke. It does work for many people though and I would suggest trying it if possible. It is not an insulin although it is injected.

I am having more low Blood Sugars than normal. I am over-correcting my insulin. I have to work on that. 70 is considered low by most people and I have been dropping down to 50 to 60.

The best way to correct a low is to take your blood sugar. Take 1 tablet of glucose (sold over the counter) and wait 15 minutes. Check it again and if still way too low take one more tablet. It is rare to need more than 2 to fix a low.

Do not use candy, juice or soda or other high carb foods as it takes too long and over-corrects. The safest way is to use the glucose tablets.
