My income is so low that I qualify for the local food pantries. I wish they let us pick what we want, but free food is good. What we don’t want or like we share with each other. We have a community table downstairs and everyone can give or take what they want from it. What is in my pantry containers that I don’t like I can almost replace with the things the others don’t like or want.
Not all food pantries are the same. Years ago where I used to live I went to the one for my area and had to stop. The food was all well past the expiration date and the cans were rusty and dented. I was afraid to eat the stuff. Thankfully I wasn’t that bad off that I needed that food to live on. It was a church and it surprised me that they would give that stuff out.
Not all areas have food pantries, but if you have them and are low income check them out. They check your income and identity. They used to just give out bags of food if you showed up. Things have changed.
I understand that soon we will be getting vouchers for fresh fruit and vegetables from a local farmer. This place is well-known for its produce. Hopefully my age will allow me to be eligible. My neighbor thinks so.
My cabinets are super tall and I can barely reach the lowest ones. I have to use a stool and only the first step to try and store this stuff. I am afraid of the second step.
Off to put the rest away.
