My dad is very confused and it is just continually getting worse. He insists they load them in trucks and take him to his house and the house is all lit up. He doesn’t understand why he can’t have his car out in the parking lot. He doesn’t understand why he can’t drive and that he won’t be driving ever again. He insisted today that he has a landlord. This was bad enough watching my mom go through this and she came up with some real good ones too.
I hope I go in my sleep. He has no idea what he is doing at this point and I thank God for that. Since dementia runs in my family there is a good chance that I will go through it. I would like to apologize in advance to my children. I won’t remember it which is the only good part.
My back is killing me. I overdid it the other day and then again today. They are supposed to deaden the nerves on the 21st. I hope it works.

So sorry to hear this. Strokes are nasty. Both my parents had strokes. My mom’s was a very bad one, that should have killed her, but instead, she was paralyzed on one side, along with dementia. She ended up living in a nursing home for 10 years before she passed away. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

It affected his left side, but they have regained some of his use of his left side from the rehab. He is supposed to be going to a nursing home or long term care they call it now soon. He is fighting it and with the dementia we never know what he is going to come up with next.

A long term care facility will be the best for him and for you. My mother also had dementia. It got to the point where we just could not take care of her any more. My thoughts and prayers are with you. You have a long, hard battle ahead of you.

You’re welcome. I’ve been there. I know exactly what you are going through. It’s OK to cry and it’s OK to take time out for you too. In fact, it is absolutely necessary. Best of luck to you.

I was going everyday, then every other and now once a week.

Just go when you need to, but know that help is always there when you need it.

That is one of the major reasons besides cost that we chose to have in a long term care facility. He still needs medical help and my sister and I can’t provide it and she works full time and I am disabled. He is better off with full time care in a facility. He will eventually realize it is for his own good and forgive us.

Coming to that decision is often the hardest one you will ever have to come to. But it is so necessary. Good for you. Stay strong.
