Questions:

If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?  If you don’t think Heaven nor God exists, you might want answer by saying something outrageous, just for fun! This is hard as I don’t know what I would want to hear. How about we have been expecting you? You are forgiven for your sins?

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery? Watching your parents turn from the strong parents you admired to little children that you have to take care of as they sink into dementia and strokes. My dad is just like a little child now and has to look towards my sister and I to take care of him which upsets him when he is lucid.

What do you think about when you’re alone in your car? Usually I am worrying about where I am going and what I have to do when I get there.

How would you rate your memory? Poor. I can’t remember things five minutes later and I repeat myself over and over and annoy my kids.

And lastly:

What’s one song that always cheers you up, no matter how blue you’re feeling? I can’t name a particular song, but to me rock and roll makes me happier and wanting to move to the music.

Thanks Tessa, for Sharing Your World! It can be challenging to watch our parents age, especially if dementia or senility comes as part of the process! It’s not easy, my condolences. Enjoy your dad while he’s around, because even with those problems, it’s horrible when they die. My pop passed away in 2003, and I still miss him.

We lost my mom 5 years ago. He so wants to go and be with her. He was her sole caretaker for at least 30 years and he misses her so much. My sister and I are doing our best to make his last years as comfortable as possible and keeping him safe. The stroke caused brain damage and then the dementia started as well. He can still have very intelligent conversations depending on the subject and he remembers all of us still so that’s a plus.
