Dad had told all of us kids that he had buried his inheritance to us and that he had hidden it in the backyard and “X marks the spot.”

What a cliché!

We all headed over to dad’s house and headed to the backyard. All we saw was a field of stones of varying sizes and I do mean varying sizes. Some were small stones, and some were boulders. We started wandering around looking for freshly dug holes. Although where he would put an X remained to be seen.

I tripped over a small rock. It was painted with the letter “E.” How weird!

I didn’t think about it at first and continued to search my area of the yard.

Suddenly my brother yelled he had found a stone with a “P” painted on it.

Things started to fall together, and I told my brothers I think dad had used the stones, rocks, etc. to use as marking pieces. So, all we needed was the one with an “X” on it.

Quickly turning over stones we eventually found the one marked “X” and moved it aside and started to dig where the small stone had lain. A metal box came into view and after opening it we found written on a piece of paper, ha ha made you look!

When we got back to the hospital dad was laughing. Then he handed us his bank account number and the key to the safety deposit box which we would need once he had passed, along with his will, etc. His doctor hadn’t given him long to live. We tried to laugh along with him. Dad always had a great sense of humor.
