Rules from Haunted Wordsmith:

Welcome to the new Opposites Attract Challenge!

For this challenge, I provide one word and a list of its antonyms. The challenge is to use the prompt word AND one (or more) of its antonyms in some form of writing (or creative work).

Explore the word and its opposite … challenge your creative side

Today’s word: Soothe

Antonyms: distress, torment, torture, trouble

Nothing I could do was soothing the baby. She continued crying for what seemed forever.

I continued to look to see what was tormenting her. She’d been fed, burped and changed.

I reached down to check to see if she was wet again and I found the trouble. Ouch! The pin in the baby’s diaper had come unhooked and it was sticking her.

(PS I am old enough to have used real diapers and pins and sticking a baby wasn’t totally unusual)
