Tenth Anniversary of the April Blogging from A to Z Challenge – Letter G is For Gender Dysphoria or Transgender

Tenth Anniversary of the April Blogging from A to Z Challenge

I have chosen to write for the mental health topic. It is very important to me that we support all those with mental health issues and I personally suffer from a good amount of them myself.

Gender Dysphoria or Transgender

The below definition for Gender Dysphoria or Transgender was taken from Web MD. To read more click here:

People who have gender dysphoria feel strongly that their gender does not match their biology.

For example, a person who has a penis and all other physical traits of a male might feel instead that he is actually a female. That person would have an intense desire to have a female body and to be accepted by others as a female. Or someone with the physical characteristics of a female would feel her true identity is male.

Feeling that your body does not reflect your true gender can cause severe distress, anxiety, and depression. “Dysphoria” is a feeling of dissatisfaction, anxiety, and restlessness. With gender dysphoria, the discomfort with your male or female body can be so intense that it can interfere with your normal life, for instance at school or work or during social activities.

*******************************

This is not something that I suffer from, but I can imagine how difficult it could be to feel that you should be the opposite sex from what you are born with. Now I am female and in no way would I want to be a male and if that was how I was born I can only imagine how distressed I would feel.

In today’s world people are coming out and showing their true feelings, which include sexual orientation and other gender related conditions. People in this situation may have tremendous mental health conditions ranging from minor to severe where they won’t even touch or look at themselves and the offending body parts.

This topic came up this morning when I was watching local news and my daughter overheard how there is a place in the state capital that will now be assisting those undergoing gender reassignment. She asked me what it meant and I told her sometimes nature and wiring just get confused and gender is not entirely about chromosomes or sex organs.
I don’t think she is old enough to grasp it yet since she asked me if I ever wished I was a boy instead of a girl and I said no, I think girls are every bit as good as boys so I’m cool with who I am…She thinks it would be cool to pee standing up.
Out of the mouths of babes…
I have been a full supporter of LGBTQ rights since the 90’s. I will encourage nothing less in her. Love is love, people are who they are, and it shouldn’t be this hate filled and complicated.

Good for you and your choice of how to raise your daughter. I, too, never wanted to be a boy and screw peeing standing up, it is not that important to me LOL!
