Late for Brunch
By Teresa Smeigh 2019
The ladies were having their weekly Sunday brunch. Sadie had brought the pitcher of iced tea out to the table and Marcie was right behind her with a tray of glasses. Veronica was busy making finger sandwiches in the kitchen.
Usually there were four of them having brunch each week. The girls worried a little about Ruth, but they had a lot to do to finish setting up the food and drink. Ruth didn’t drink the iced tea. She always had a mixed drink. Marcie started to mix Ruth’s drink once she was done her part in the set-up.
Ruth was still not here. Now the women were getting really concerned.
There was a bang against the front door. It wasn’t a knock exactly just a bang. When Marcie opened the door, Ruth fell into the room gasping. Sadie called 9-1-1. Marcie noticed a rock and wondered what it was. Did someone hit Ruth with it?
The EMT’s arrived quickly and started to work on her. Before they could get her loaded onto their gurney Ruth took her last breath. She never said a word.

Rules from the host of Sunday Photo Fiction:
Welcome to 2019 and Sunday Photo Fiction! Each week I will post a new photograph, taken either by myself or donated by a member of the community. The challenge is to write a story using 200 words or less based, on the prompt. When you are done, post your story and the photo prompt on your blog. Make sure you give proper credit when using the photo. Use the “Click Here to Enter” icon to add your story to the SPF collection. While you are there, take time to read and comment on some of the other stories. I know you will not be disappointed.
