SoCS for Saturday May 25, 2019

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS May 25/19

Here’s your prompt:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “rhymes with rosy.” Find a word that rhymes with “rosy” or use the word “rosy” and base your post on it. Enjoy!

Here’s the rules from Linda Hill:

1. Your post must be stream of consciousness writing, meaning no editing (typos can be fixed), and minimal planning on what you’re going to write.

2. Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be. One sentence – one thousand words. Fact, fiction, poetry – it doesn’t matter. Just let the words carry you along until you’re ready to stop.

3. I will post the prompt here on my blog every Friday, along with a reminder for you to join in. The prompt will be one random thing, but it will not be a subject. For instance, I will not say “Write about dogs”; the prompt will be more like, “Make your first sentence a question,” “Begin with the word ‘The,’” or will simply be a single word to get you started.

4. Ping back! It’s important, so that I and other people can come and read your post! For example, in your post you can write “This post is part of SoCS:” and then copy and paste the URL found in your address bar at the top of this post into yours.  Your link will show up in my comments for everyone to see. The most recent pingbacks will be found at the top. NOTE: Pingbacks only work from WordPress sites. If you’re self-hosted or are participating from another host, such as Blogger, please leave a link to your post in the comments below.

5. Read at least one other person’s blog who has linked back their post. Even better, read all of them! If you’re the first person to link back, you can check back later or go to the previous week by following my category, “Stream of Consciousness Saturday,” which you’ll find below the “Like” button on my post.

6. Copy and paste the rules (if you’d like to) in your post. The more people who join in, the more new bloggers you’ll meet and the bigger your community will get!

7. As a suggestion, tag your post “SoCS” and/or “#SoCS” for more exposure and more views.

8. Have fun!

Cozy apartments make me jealous. My place is always such a mess. I don’t have the inclination to clean and I am unorganized as all get out. Right now I am in such pain that cleaning is not going to happen. I already had my inspection so that shouldn’t happen anytime soon. Hopefully, I can get it straightened up by the time they come in to put my new kitchen floor in at the beginning of June.

However, any exertion gives me rosy cheeks. It doesn’t take much.

Thursday photo prompt: Transition #writephoto

Sue’s Rules:

Every Thursday at noon GMT, I publish one of my photos as a writing prompt.  If you know where the photo was taken, please keep it to yourself until the challenge is closed and I usually share something about the place during the round-up.

Use the image and title provided as inspiration to create a post on your own blog… poetry, prose, humour… light or dark, whatever you choose, by noon (GMT)  on Wednesday  each week,  and link back to the prompt post with a pingback to be included in the round-up.  There is no word limit and no style requirements, except to keep it fairly family friendly and not passionately political.

All posts will be featured in the round-up on Thursday.

Make Sure You Are Alone

By Teresa Smeigh 2019

Susan spent every day working in her garden. Only the rain kept her away. The sun was hot and so she always wore shorts and tank tops while working.

She thought she heard noises every now and then from the old building at the one end of the garden plot. She never went in there. She always brought her gardening tools with her. She had no idea what was in that building, but the noises were becoming disconcerting.

She assumed an animal had made its home in there. Another reason to stay away. She didn’t want an animal biting her for disturbing its home.

The noises were an animal of sorts. A human one. Daniel watched Susan every day while she worked. The bugs and vermin that were in that dark building were beginning to bother him and he knew Susan could hear him moving around as she was spending more and more of her time looking at the door to the building. He hoped she didn’t come over to investigate the noises.

He didn’t want to hurt her, but he couldn’t let her see him. He decided the next day it rained he would come to catch the rats and hopefully make the building more inviting for his watching.

He came the next day and it was cloudy, but not raining. He secreted himself before her normal arrival time. While he was setting out the rat traps he didn’t hear her arrive and was shocked when she confronted him with a flashlight and a gun.

“Susan don’t!”

“You slimeball, I have a restraining order on you and you can’t be anywhere within 100 feet of me. I knew something was up in here.”

She threw a shovel at him and told him to start digging. He picked it up and started to dig. The hole was pretty big by now and his last shovelful showed a hand. “Susan, what…” He suddenly realized who else was buried in there. Her first husband had disappeared one day several years ago. “Oh no, not Roger?”

“He didn’t listen either.” She fired at him and when he fell she pushed him into the hole and covered it. She packed it down and went back to her gardening. Now she could garden in peace.

My favorite flower is lilacs. I love the beautiful pinks and purples and the smell is wonderful.
