Williamstown, NJ

By Teresa Smeigh 2019

I live in Williamstown, NJ. According to Google, Williamstown was named after King William IV who was the monarch at the time of discovery, earlier the town was known as Port Harwood. At one stage Williamstown looked like being the site of what would become Melbourne but the area didn’t have enough fresh water to sustain a much larger town.

Williamstown is a suburb of Philadelphia with a population of 15,191. Williamstown is in Gloucester County. Living in Williamstown offers residents a suburban feel and most residents own their homes. Many families and young professionals live in Williamstown and residents tend to lean conservative.

I have lived in Williamstown twice in my life. 20 years ago I lived in a duplex which is located across the street from where I live now in a senior highrise. I am on the 6th floor and I can look out my window during the window and see my old place. On July 4th I can see about 8 different fireworks shows at once and the sound comes from the one right near our building. Quite a show.
