Two bad things about living in a high rise building.

Over the weekend we had a very real fire on the floor below me. I am on the 6th floor. Being disabled I have to go to the fire escape tower and wait there. Someone going down told us there was smoke on the floor below us. The fire happened to be on the other end of the building. The elevators are shut down when the alarm goes off. The guy in the apartment was unconscious and taken to the hospital where he spent several days recuperating from smoke inhalation. Others were given oxygen at the scene. I don’t know if more than just the one guy went to the hospital or not. He was making dinner and fell asleep and set his apartment on fire. This is not his first time they tell me. He has either been smoking which isn’t allowed either or cooking and falls asleep. He is endangering us all and shouldn’t be allowed to live here after all the warnings.

Then tonight both elevators went down at the same time. Now we are used to having one down a lot, but both were down and I and others can’t climb the stairs so we were stuck downstairs for hours before they got the repairman here. Firemen got the guy who was stuck out but did more damage getting him out.

This has been a bad week for sure.
