This is something I deal with in many ways and quite often, even daily.

Thanks for sharing this article. It really resonated and offered an explanation for why I am always tense, on red alert, and so easily shaken by common sounds. It was startling to realize how many of the symptoms listed I experience on a daily basis and are chalked up simply to depression and anxiety. This article offered more information and insight than 26 years of doctors and therapists.
You are not alone in this struggle, trust me.

You are welcome. One of my most irritating sounds is flip flops. I hate the sound of each shoe as it hits the floor. Humming is another sound that drives me super batty. Most people live among these sounds and have no idea how upsetting they are to some of us. I even find children laughing and screaming to be very upsetting and my kids don’t understand why I can’t be around their kids for hours at a time. They are simply being kids, but the sounds upset me.

I get paranoid over sounds like the fridge or furnace or microwave. Is it normal? Was it sounding like that before? Is it about to blow up? It truly is like being in a perpetual state of red alert and it takes a toll.
The kid thing…aye, egad, mine is a chatterbox who does not pause for breath so…at some point I have to beg her for mercy and ask for 10 minutes sound free. She usually makes it for about 4 minutes but at least it is time to reboot a bit. Small victories and respites.

I certainly can sympathize with the sound thing. Weird things that most people never would think about.

Thanks for the reblog Morgue. Hypervigilance can definitely be linked to bipolar as well.
