Thankful Thursdays – Please Join Me – 6/11/2020 – #1

I am going to restart a post I used to participate in on another blog. It is no longer available so here is my version of it. This is number one and if anyone wants to join me and post what they are thankful for, please either create a post on your blog and put the link in the comments or just post in the comments.  You can use my logo in your post. If I get some interest in this post I will see about getting a new logo for it. Or if someone is able to create a similar logotype picture to use in the post that will be good also? I know several people created pictures for use on Linda G Hills “Stream of Consciousness” Saturdays. I am open to all suggestions. This is the extent of my talents in design, unfortunately. Now to the post at hand.

I am thankful for:

–A roof over my head (Praise God that I found out about public housing and managed to get my name on the list. County-wide program in my state, but would think most states/countries probably have similar programs. It is a long waiting list unless you are a senior or disabled and that was around 2 years. I am in a senior hi-rise and unfortunately, people do die all the time so there is a lot of turnaround).

–Food in my belly.

–Family, Friends, and Neighbors who care what happens to me.

–None of my family is sick with the coronavirus including my 88-year-old dad in a nursing home full of sick patients with the virus. He’s been tested 3 times now.

–I actually received my stimulus check unlike millions of others who didn’t, including my son.

–Social Security and Medicare is still intact.

–I have applied for charity care for my hospital bill from the end of January that was 10 days long. According to the woman I talked to, I should qualify, otherwise, it will take them a long time of payments for that to get paid.

–Medicaid which pays for an aide to help me bathe and dress, clean my apartment, do my laundry, and cooks breakfast and lunch. She also makes and changes my bed and does the laundry. Plus she takes my trash and recyclables down.

–Medicaid pays for my LifeStation Medical Alert Button monthly. It provides my incontinence supplies and provides me with one free meal every day.

–And my new rollator (walker with wheels and seat)

–I found a new pain doctor, referred by someone he was able to make walk again. There’s hope for me.

To My Readers – Please read as I have a question

I have been trying to figure out how to word this so it makes sense and not confuse the hell out of everyone.

It has to do with the reader. I know all of my blogs, all 3, come through on one spot in the reader. They are not separated by the blog they were coming from. If I answer a comment or follow a blog that has followed using one of my blogs, does it go back to the blog used or does it just use what is the number one blog to reply or follow?

I tried to make my www.tessacandoit.com blog the number one blog and delete the www.finallyawriter.com, but it wouldn’t allow me to do it because www.finallyawriter.com is the blog I started with and therefore cannot be deleted without deleting every other blog I have.

I was wondering if I have to try and figure out how to make my new blog, www.tessadeanauthor.com, number one so the answers and follows come from there. If the reader knows what blog to use to answer or follow from then I don’t have to worry about that. Does that make sense? I know I just confused myself. LOL!

I do know that updating three blogs with all my writing is getting old fast. Some of you simply follow me from whatever prompt I enter and don’t follow my blog itself. And I just noticed that someone I have been following forever had the follow me as not followed and I was sure I followed her. I know once in my reader if I hit follow it doesn’t let me know what blog it is that is following them.

Maybe this question is unanswerable.

I Still Want Your Stories!

Here’s a short story contest you might wish to enter.

estherchiltonblog

Last week, I announced the launch of a new short story competition to celebrate the sixth anniversary of the release of my first book of short stories, The Siege. There’s still time to enter. Here are the details for you:

One of the stories in The Siege opens as follows:

I didn’t know what had happened. Not at first. And then I knew.

I’d like your story to open in the same way. What happens after those first three lines is up to you. Perhaps your character has found himself in another world, or maybe they’ve just heard the news that a relative has died. See where your imagination takes you.

The maximum word count for your story is 500 words. The closing date is Friday 19th June. E-mail your entries to estherchilton@gmail.com

I’ll choose the winning entry after the closing date and publish the story on my blog…

New Author’s Website – tessadeanauthor.com

I am in the process of setting up a new author website www.tessadeanauthor.com where I will be slowly moving my writing over to it rather than half on two other websites. I know I have followers on each and some that follow both so getting this site to fully function could take a while plus it is not a free website. I actually paid for a premium site with no ads and other features. It is harder to learn and to post to. I am struggling with that right now.

This blog is very easy to post to, but the new one and the editor sucks. I am still using the very first one they had when I started these other two blogs and one of them is 10 years old although I deleted or reposted a lot of the older stuff so the dates are no longer there from when I first started it, I know it was in 2010. I only use that newer editor if I have to re-edit on the fly. Now they say there is a new one coming and the one on this new blog is already difficult to deal with. Perhaps I should have just stayed with the free blog. I don’t know. I am trying to make it more professional. Some day I just might decide to publish and then I would have a sort of writer’s platform set up.

In the beginning, I might try to post on all 3 blogs, but not sure how long I can keep that up. If you could please follow the new one then the move will be much easier. Thanks to whoever has seen this.

For visually challenged writers, the image shows a green horizon, beyond which the mist veils a hill topped with strange rock formations.

Lost

by Tessa Dean June 2020

The mist was getting worse, and Joanna could barely see 3 feet in front of her. How was she supposed to find a small child in this weather?

Her best friend’s daughter, Gina, had wandered out of the partially unlatched door, and now she and 50 other villagers were looking for her frantically as the weather was getting worse, and the mist was getting thicker as the time got later. Soon it would be dark as well. Finding the child before the mist got any closer was necessary.

You could hear the volunteers shouting frantically, “Gina, Gina, please answer us. Come on, baby girl, and make a sound.”

Joanna didn’t think at three years old that Gina would be able to wander very far, but she didn’t know. The child’s mother was crying hysterically, and her mother was trying to comfort her.

Joanna looked around her, calling frantically for Gina, but there was no response. Now, where would a three-year-old child hide if she was hiding? You couldn’t tell with children.

Joanna thought she heard a whimper nearby. She listened, and the sound seemed to be coming from the hill that was nearby and covered with rocks and trees. Is it possible she was down there somewhere? Maybe she fell.

Joanna struggled over the edge of the hill, and listening found Gina a few feet down from the top. She picked up the now crying child and hugged her close. Gina stopped trembling and settled into Joanna’s arms.

The child’s mother, Marci, was at the top of the hill and had spotted them and made her way carefully down the slope and took the proffered child who snuggled happily in her mother’s arms.

I am adopting a pen name for my writing.

I have decided after watching many youtube videos on the subject to adopt a pen name. I am already using Tessa on here and so I am using Tessa and my maiden name of Dean for a pen name. I have a lot to change for this and it will take some time to get it all under control.

I was able to change my youtube name which I wasn’t sure about, but all I needed to do was change my google name. So I will be writing under Tessa Dean from now on.

Here is the video where I make the change:

I don’t know if I will ever publish a book. A lot depends on finances. However I am looking at publishing my stuff on my blogs however I haven’t decided if I will add a new blog just for writing under that pen name since I have a lot of viewers on my 2 current blogs and starting a new one from scratch would be difficult and time consuming.

Weekend Writing Prompt #159 – Intrepid – by Sammi Cox

Weekend Writing Prompt #159 – Intrepid – by Sammi Cox

Sailing up the coast could be dangerous, but the intrepid sailor didn’t let it bother him. He welcomed dangerous tasks and found they soothed his wild instincts. He liked to be free to roam wherever he wanted and however he wanted. A bad storm started to rage, and he was swept overboard

Sammi Cox’s Rules:

The challenge is simple: each week you will be given an exact number of words you can use to write a poem or piece of prose.  You can use any format or style you like; go wherever your inspiration takes you.  The only rules are these:

  • your poem/prose must contain this week’s word.  The word does not have to count towards the exact word count total – it can be in the title, or the first letters of the lines of a poem can spell it out – you can be as creative as you want as long as it’s there somewhere.
  • the length of your poem/prose must match the number of words stated in this week’s challenge.  No more.  No less.

The Weekly Smile for 6/1/2020 #weeklysmile – I now have an aide to help

The Weekly Smile for 6/1/2020 #weeklysmile – I now have an aide to help

I now have an aide who comes in Monday to Friday from 9AM to 1PM and she helps me bathe, dress, and do the household chores including the laundry. My apartment is so clean and she vacuums and dusts every day to help my asthma out.

So that is my smile in a time when finding a smile is difficult.
