Today’s prompt: breakup, warehouse, moose

Absolutely No Hunting

By Teresa Smeigh 2019

Tracy and George were out by the warehouse and noticed a moose hanging around. The area is deserted, and I guess it felt safe enough there. George wanted to go home and get a gun and shoot it. Tracy objected to hunting and she told him to leave it alone.

They got back in the car so George could head home to get his gun. Tracy sulked all the way there.

George jumped out of the car and headed inside to get the gun. Tracy got out of the car and started to walk home.

“Where are you going, Tracy?”

“I told you no hunting and I meant it.”

“So, what are you going to do?”

“I am going to break up with you, that is what I am going to do. This is too important to me and I know hunting is your thing. We can’t work around it.”

Today’s prompt: calendardolphin, ruby

Dolphin Memories

By Teresa Smeigh 2019

Marilyn was staring off into space and then would come back to the present and stare at the calendar in her hand. It was an old calendar she had found in a box of mementos and was pictures from when she and Robbie were together and had gone to an old ocean aquarium show that was no longer around. It had closed years ago.

She was staring at the picture of her favorite show. There were three dolphins jumping through rings and her favorite one jumped through a ring of rubies. It was a beautiful ring and looked lovely all filled with bright red stones. She knew it was probably not real rubies, but it didn’t matter, it was lovely just the same and she liked to imagine it was rubies.

Today’s prompt: lipstick, piano, butterfly

**************************

Beautiful Butterfly!

By Teresa Smeigh 2019

Virginia was sitting on the piano stool staring at a beautiful butterfly. The colors are bright, and she wonders which one might match her lipstick.

The butterfly was still there when she got back with her box of lipsticks. She pulls them out one by one and holds them in the general area and tries not to scare it off.

Just then her one-year-old son Jeremy fell into the piano knocking the lid closed, and the butterfly flew away.

“No,” Virginia wails, and yells at Jeremy who was wailing on his own.

John scoops up his son murmuring to him and, slowly his wailing calms down as he clings to his dad.

“Virginia! What is the matter with you? There was no need to put up such a fuss when all he did was fall and scare off a butterfly of all things. You know he is still unsteady on his feet.”

Virginia was sobbing as she picked up her lipsticks and put them back in her box.

“Virginia, I swear you act like a one-year-old yourself at times. Grow up! I am sick and tired of dealing with you and your tantrums and childish behavior. I expect this from Jeremy, but not from you.”

Virginia runs from the room crying and stomps up the stairs. From the top, she throws the box of lipsticks down. “I hate you!” she screams.

John just ignores her. He takes his son out to the kitchen, and they look for something for dinner. He’s had enough of Virginia and her temper tantrums, which were getting worse as time goes on.

Today’s prompt: zigzag, hash, grandma

**************************

Dash!

By Teresa Smeigh 2019

Grandma was being chased by some women who said her hash was horrible and they couldn’t eat it so she would have to wear it. She did a zigzag trying to avoid the handfuls of it that were being slung at her. Eventually, she slid on the stuff and down she went and downs she stayed. She no longer had any breath left to run anymore.

Today’s prompt: ankle, clown, apricot

**************************

Ugh!

By Teresa Smeigh 2019

The clown was racing around the ring with another clown chasing him. Suddenly he twisted his ankle on an apricot and down he went. The crowd roared with laughter. A tear trickled down his cheek. That really hurt.

Today’s prompt: star, lake, telegram

**************************

The Telegram

By Teresa Smeigh 2019

As the star twinkled and fell towards earth, Marly stood on the bank of the lake, staring at the telegram in her hand. She couldn’t see it in the dark, but she didn’t need the light to see it, to know what it said. The contents were ingrained in her mind.

Mark was gone. Killed in action with his whole regiment.

Marly sunk to the ground and wept with grief. He was supposed to be on his way home for their wedding tomorrow. God, how could you do this?

Today’s prompt: doctor, caramel, fire

**************************

Ow!

By Teresa Smeigh 2019

John was cooking at the stove and suddenly yelled, “Ow!”

“What’s up John? Are you ok?” Valerie was a doctor and therefore anyone yelling ow got her attention.

“Oh man I was making some candy and it called for melted caramel, but I stupidly touched it and it stuck to my skin and I burned it bad.”

“Put it under cold water immediately. At least you know it was stupid.”
