Thankful Thursdays – Please Join Me – 6/25/2020 – #3

If anyone wants to join me and post what they are thankful for, please either create a post on your blog and put the link in the comments or just post in the comments.  You can use my logo in your post. If I get some interest in this post I will see about getting a new logo for it.

I am thankful for:

–A roof over my head

–Food in my belly. (One meal a day is provided by Medicaid. So my food budget has decreased).

–Family, Friends, and Neighbors who care what happens to me.

–My 88-year-old dad is now positive for the virus, but he is asymptomatic and showing no symptoms of the disease so far. Thank God! No update on his status.

–Social Security and Medicare is still intact. (There is talk about there not being money to fund Social Security due to this pandemic’s financial drain on society.)

–I have applied for charity care for my hospital bill from the end of January that was 10 days long. According to the woman I talked to, I should qualify, otherwise, it will take them a long time of payments for that to get paid. Still waiting on their decision as the paperwork I sent along with my application has disappeared. Resent new paperwork and copies and a new signed application.

–I had my first injection in the left side of my spine and on July 9th they will do the right side. Feels a little bit better right now, but still too early to tell for sure. Still very stiff in the morning when I first get up.

–$30 in free fresh produce certificates have arrived.

–I also qualify for a cooling discount on my electric bill plus help from the state. There are programs for low-income people just have to find out what and where they are.

–I got my free fan for senior citizens with low income.

Covid-19 Strikes Home

Until 2 hours ago I was able to say that I did not personally know anyone with the virus. Then my sister called to say that our dad (in long term care/nursing facility) has now tested positive for the virus. He is asymptomatic and feeling fine. This brings the total of residents with it to 146 and 12 positive employees. 66 of the positive residents are now recovered. They are required by the state to test weekly.

I don’t know much about the asymptomatic cases, but I hope that means he will not get sick himself, he is just a carrier. So far he is fine and a large majority of their cases have been asymptomatic. This makes me wonder just how many people out there are running around spreading the virus because they don’t know they have it. For all I know I may be asymptomatic myself. How many of these loud-mouth know-it-alls who want to reopen the country and stop wearing masks are out there helping the virus to spread? You don’t have to have actual symptoms to be a carrier.

I am going to restart a post I used to participate in on another blog. It is no longer available so here is my version of it. This is number one and if anyone wants to join me and post what they are thankful for, please either create a post on your blog and put the link in the comments or just post in the comments.  You can use my logo in your post. If I get some interest in this post I will see about getting a new logo for it. Or if someone is able to create a similar logotype picture to use in the post that will be good also? I know several people created pictures for use on Linda G Hills “Stream of Consciousness” Saturdays. I am open to all suggestions. This is the extent of my talents in design, unfortunately. Now to the post at hand.

I am thankful for:

–A roof over my head (Praise God that I found out about public housing and managed to get my name on the list. County-wide program in my state, but would think most states/countries probably have similar programs. It is a long waiting list unless you are a senior or disabled and that was around 2 years. I am in a senior hi-rise and unfortunately, people do die all the time so there is a lot of turnaround).

–Food in my belly.

–Family, Friends, and Neighbors who care what happens to me.

–None of my family is sick with the coronavirus including my 88-year-old dad in a nursing home full of sick patients with the virus. He’s been tested 3 times now.

–I actually received my stimulus check unlike millions of others who didn’t, including my son.

–Social Security and Medicare is still intact.

–I have applied for charity care for my hospital bill from the end of January that was 10 days long. According to the woman I talked to, I should qualify, otherwise, it will take them a long time of payments for that to get paid.

–Medicaid which pays for an aide to help me bathe and dress, clean my apartment, do my laundry, and cooks breakfast and lunch. She also makes and changes my bed and does the laundry. Plus she takes my trash and recyclables down.

–Medicaid pays for my LifeStation Medical Alert Button monthly. It provides my incontinence supplies and provides me with one free meal every day.

–And my new rollator (walker with wheels and seat)

–I found a new pain doctor, referred by someone he was able to make walk again. There’s hope for me.

I had a scare! Virus?

A few weeks ago I had to go to the doctor as my coughing had gotten very bad and during these spells of coughing, I had trouble breathing and was wheezing. I have asthma. I also had a slight temperature. I was terrified it was the virus. I called my doctor and it was determined that I needed to come in.

Thank God it was only another case of  Bronchitis although Bronchitis for me is never a simple thing. The last case had me hospitalized for 10 days the end of January.

Now the coughing stopped for a week or so and now I am starting to cough again. This Is not good. Is it another case of Bronchitis which is way too soon or is possibly the virus this time. My nerves are on edge and my anxiety is out of control despite the high dose of anti-anxiety medicine I take.

Resurgence of Virus Cases and Some Sick For a Second Time

I just heard this on the news. What I am hearing here is that having had the virus once does not protect you from getting it again. How do you battle a threat like this? Will we ever get back to the before virus normal? I predicted when this started that it was going to be a tremendous loss of life and a serious fight to conquer it and since most people still don’t see a need to wear a mask or covering or staying home there is not much chance that we will ever stop it and if it can reinfect those that had it where does that leave us. Obviously, some people, if not all, are not building up antibodies from being sick.

People need to take this seriously and start practicing social distancing if they must go out and staying home if they don’t need to go out. If you go out where a covering of some type on your face. We are losing health care workers. Who is going to take care of the sick when they are all sick.

NJ now over 81,000 cases of Covid-19 and over 4000 deaths

NJ now over 81,000 cases of Covid-19 and over 4000 deaths

I forgot to make a new post so I just overwrote my last one like an idiot.

Our numbers are still rapidly increasing. I was set to have a televisit with a doctor on Monday. It was my endocrinologist and I had to make a special trip over there so they could download my numbers on my meter and my insulin pump.

Today I get a notice telling me that I will have a regular in-face appointment and that I just have to wear a mask. I have been self-quarantining myself in my apartment and only going out if absolutely necessary.

I will be calling the doctor Monday morning and expressing my feelings that with our numbers still rapidly rising I don’t want to come out of my apartment. Why did they suddenly decide NOW that they will have in-person appointments? Now is not the time to go back to the old normal.

There are some doctors that you have to see in person and I went to my podiatrist because I can’t cut my own toenails with my back issues. I switched pharmacies to a pharmacy that is just a pharmacy and not the local grocery store that is super packed with unmasked people although they are now requiring masks and limiting the number of people at a time.

I am in the group that are at high risk. I have severe asthma and can’t breathe at times already. I am diabetic and that is another group at risk and then my age is 63. I am considered a senior citizen.

They may be wearing masks and so might I but I have to go through my apartment building where most of my neighbors don’t see any reason to wear a mask. My mask is not to protect me but to protect them and they should be wearing one to protect me.

I also think all these states that have decided to go back to the old normal right now and by the end of the month are stupid. They are going to cause a resurgence and we haven’t even hit our peak yet. We are still rapidly increasing in the number of cases and deaths. What is wrong with people?????

New Numbers of Virus in NJ

A couple of days ago the numbers had risen to over 62.000 people in NJ with the coronavirus. Part of the problem is the people who aren’t’ taking it seriously. They are out in public in groups. They aren’t wearing masks. When is it going to stop climbing? How many have to die before we take it seriously? I have a father in a nursing home. They had a sick employee. Thank God they caught it before it infected the residents. I can’t even see my father due to this virus or my children either for that matter. I have seen each child once from over 6 ft away and I was masked. I saw my newest grandchild who is now 4 months old from a few feet away briefly. I was again masked. I haven’t seen my other grandchildren at all. Because I live alone we all are practicing social distancing from each other.

I am quarantined in my apartment all alone. I don’t go out unless I have to get food or medicine or in one case I had to go to the doctor since I was showing symptoms of the virus myself. Thank God it was just another case of Bronchitis and it looks like we caught it early enough that I won’t have to go to the hospital this time.

Wednesday I have to go get my refill for my pain medicine since I have to give a urine sample. I am on very little pain medicine now. She has got me off since the incident. I might as well use aspirin for all the good this Tramadol is doing. I get 2 per day of the lowest dose. Big deal.

And then Thursday I have to go to the podiatrist to get my toenails cut and my feet checked since I am diabetic. I can’t phone my urine or my toenails in so out in public I will have to go. My Endocrinologist and my Psychiatrist are doing tele-appointments. Some I simply canceled.

NJ rises over 50,000 cases of Coronavirus – Animals now getting virus?

I live in NJ, a small state that is densely populated. We are now over 54,000 reported cases of the coronavirus. In my compromised state, this scares me intensely.

I have severe Asthma, Diabetes (insulin-dependent), I am a senior citizen with High Blood Pressure. I just had a scare. I started coughing violently, causing wheezing and a slight temperature. I called the doctor and went in to see him. I was masked as were they. Now luckily it wasn’t the virus. It was another case of Bronchitis. At the end of January, I spent 10 days in the hospital on oxygen for a severe case of Bronchitis. I am prone to Bronchitis. I pray that this case does not get that bad. Being in the hospital at this time is not a good thing. The doctor gave me antibiotics and Prednisone to try and halt its progress. My temperature is gone, but the coughing is still bad. I am very careful to make sure I take my breathing treatments by nebulizer twice a day. More often for the Albuterol. I am self-quarantined except for the rare times I need food or medicine or to visit the doctor that must be done in person. I am doing my best to avoid neighbors as well, which is hard living in a tightly knit senior high-rise building. I am masked when I leave my apartment and a lot of the others living here also are wearing them. As seniors, we are most at risk. No one is allowed to visit. Any visits must be done outside the building and with social distancing. Weird talking to my son and then my daughter and son-in-law from over 6 feet away. They had to bring me something. Even though they are family we don’t live together so must practice social distancing.

My 88-year-old father is in a nursing home. I fear for him. They have had one employee test positive so far. None of the residents are sick at this point. There have been no visitors for over 2 months so far.

They are now finding the virus in the animals in the zoo. Cats, bats, and primates are being separated as they have been seen as being in danger. One large cat is definitely positive so far. It makes for worries for pet owners. Can their pet catch it? They don’t know yet. None have been tested positive so far.

One of my children is a nurse who works with dialysis patients. They cannot survive without that treatment so she is an essential person and I worry about her constantly as they are in close contact with the patients to insert the needles.

My writing group, which had stopped meeting and ended their plans for a poetry reading night with the public, is now meeting via Zoom which means I can now attend again. I had to cut my driving down after my serious hospital stay, but with social distancing my kids are no longer driving me so I must drive for essential trips. That wasn’t considered one of them.

God bless you all!

Senior Hi-Rise Almost Shut Down

The USA is now the highest in the number of coronavirus cases. NJ is really up there with over 8000 cases alone and a lot of deaths. New York is the epicenter and that state borders NJ which isn’t helping. There is talk of closing our borders as the New Yorkers are running from their state. Yes, I live in NJ,

My son was living in NC for over a year and he just came back to NJ before they do decide to close down the borders. He wanted to be with family so he left a state with not a lot of cases and came to a very highly contagious state. I got to see him today for a couple of hours from over 6 feet away. He is family, but we haven’t been living together so he was highly conscious to stay over 6 feet away from me. I happen to be one of the more compromised cases with my severe asthma and diabetes, plus my age.

I no sooner said goodbye to him that I learned upon re-entering the building that we are no longer allowed visitors. Someone can deliver food and medications but then must leave immediately. No interactions between residents in the common areas and they are now closing the laundry room for most of the day. Only open for about 4-5 hours per day. 100 apartments already using 4 washers and 4 dryers. How are we supposed to do laundry? If you need essential repairs in your apartment you are expected to stay on the other side of the room away from the man repairing whatever is broken.

We can still leave the building for food and meds but otherwise expected to self-quarantine.

This is scary times. Curfews and everything except for gas, food stores, and pharmacies are closed. My hair is getting way too long, but a haircut is out of the question.

My father is in a nursing home and they are at high risk. He is 88 and so far no one there is sick, but of course, they are not allowing visitors. Just staff, but one staff member could wipe them all out.

I bought as much food and water as I could afford for the month so on payday I am going to have to get my meds and food again. There is no way to tell how long this will last. Who would have thought that our “great” country would be worse off than a third world country? We need thousands and I mean many thousands of ventilators to keep people from dying, but the numbers are rising quickly both in new cases and people dying. Our healthcare workers are getting sick despite protection.

My daughter is a nurse in dialysis. She is essential and must work because those people can’t live without it. I worry non-stop about her and she is the one with the new baby.

I now have a medical alert button in case of emergencies. My kids insisted since I am having so many problems especially concerning my breathing and falling.

God bless us all!
