Today’s prompt: zoo, aluminum, cocoa

**************************

The zoo in our background was growing. Our children kept bringing strays home with them.

I sat on the back patio contemplating all the animals and threw the aluminum can across the open space to the recycling bin. The kids were still finishing their cups of cocoa.

Now it was time to feed the menagerie.

Today’s prompt: earthquake, vanilla, pillbox

**************************

Ruby was sitting in her favorite rocking chair in her bedroom eating a container of vanilla pudding when a heavy rumbling started to rock the rocking chair.

“What the heck,” she exclaimed.

She quickly got up and headed across the room to her bureau where she kept her antique pillbox that her grandmother had given her. It was important to her and she didn’t want it to rattle off the bureau. She didn’t make it.

The pillbox was glass and shattered all over the floor. Ruby wept as she swept up the broken glass. Earthquakes weren’t normal around here and she never thought that the pillbox would be in danger of falling off the bureau.

Today’s prompt: rainbow, serpent, cookie

**************************

“Hey little girl,” the serpent says in a sugary voice. There is a rainbow above his head, and he extends one of his claws with a cookie. “Do you want a cookie?”

“Mandy wake up,” her mom says.

Today’s prompt: tortilla, vault, riverbed

**************************

Sitting on the riverbed and munching on a tortilla my mind whirling as I tried to figure out how I was going to break into the vault at the bank. It sure wouldn’t be as easy as munching on a tortilla. My family was counting on me to provide for them so they could all move to America.

Today’s prompt:  merchant, danger, lavender

**************************

Marcie wanted to warn the merchant of the danger surrounding them. The lavender from the shelves of the flower shop was overpowering. She couldn’t think.

The man, who had a gun stuck in her back, signaled his friends to get ready to act. Before they could, Marcie had swiped the lavender plants off the shelf making the merchant turn around and he hadn’t missed the invasion. He had a gun in his hand and had already alerted the police by text.

The police swarmed in at that point. They arrested the guy with his gun in my back, but it seems that the other men weren’t his buddies, but undercover cops watching his every move. They had been on to him and taken his friends out quietly without the leader knowing.

I had to get out of there and away from the smell of lavender.

Today’s prompt: nose, Alabama, sailboat

**************************

The bright Alabama sun was burning down over them hotly.

The sailboat was tossing around under that same sun and Tony’s nose was burning. He searched the boat for sunscreen to try and stop the sun from making his nose any redder. At this rate he was going to look like the famous reindeer.

Today’s prompt: divorce, umbrella, octopus

**************************

Sitting on the beach, under an umbrella, dozing off and on while her husband fished, Milly thought about her lot in life. Ron was becoming more and more distant and all he wanted to do anymore is fish. Even if he took her on vacation it centered around fishing for him. He didn’t care what she wanted to do anymore.

Milly looked over at the pier. Ron had caught several large fish. He was busy bragging about his luck. Well his luck changed as she watched. An octopus eased one of its tentacles up over the end of the pier and wrapped itself around Ron’s leg and pulled him off the end of the pier.

His scream disappeared as he sunk under the water. Bubbles rose, but he never did.

Milly smiled in satisfaction. Now she didn’t have to deal with a divorce. She got everything and no more Ron to bother her.
